Two decades after the 2006 comedy Bhagam Bhag became a cult favourite, the franchise is gearing up for a sequel—this time with a major casting shake-up. As per trade reporting, Manoj Bajpayee has joined Bhagam Bhag 2 in the role earlier associated with Govinda, while Akshay Kumar and Paresh Rawal are set to return.
What’s Changing: A New Director for the Franchise
Another key change is behind the camera. Reports say Raaj Shaandilyaa will direct Bhagam Bhag 2, taking over from Priyadarshan, who helmed the 2006 original.
Variety India also notes Priyadarshan wasn’t retained as he is already committed to multiple Akshay Kumar projects (including Bhoot Bangla, Haiwaan, and Hera Pheri 3).
Story & Shoot Plan: “Mistaken Identities” Chaos Returns
The sequel is expected to retain the franchise’s comedy-of-errors DNA—mistaken identities and escalating chaos—with a fresh storyline. Reports add that shooting is expected to begin next month in Mumbai.
Cast Update: Meenakshi Chaudhary Joins; More Names Awaited
Trade reporting identifies Meenakshi Chaudhary as the female lead opposite Akshay Kumar, while casting discussions are ongoing for the actress opposite Manoj Bajpayee.
