BJP nominates late MLA’s son for Rahuri assembly bypoll in Maharashtra

Mumbai, Apr 1 (PTI) The Bharatiya Janata Party has fielded Akshay Shivaji Kardile for the upcoming Rahuri assembly constituency byelection in Maharashtra, officials said on Wednesday.

The bypoll, scheduled on April 23, was necessitated following the death of BJP legislator Shivaji Kardile.

The BJP, in a release on Tuesday, announced his son Akshay Kardile’s candidature for the bypoll to the Rahuri assembly seat in Ahilyanagar district.

Bypoll to the Baramati assembly constituency in Pune district, which fell vacant in January due to the death of then Deputy Chief Minister and NCP leader Ajit Pawar, is also scheduled on April 23.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis last month said all efforts would be made to ensure the bypolls to Baramati and Rahuri assembly seats are held unopposed through consensus, but asserted the BJP was ready if it came down to a contest.

The last date for filing nominations is April 6. Polling will be held on April 23 and counting of votes will be undertaken on May 4. PTI ND GK
