The Centre has ordered the blocking of five OTT platforms for allegedly streaming obscene content, officials said, with Internet Service Providers (ISPs) directed to restrict access after “due procedure.” The action was reported on February 24, 2026.

Legal basis cited

As reported, blocking directions are issued under Section 69A of the Information Technology Act, 2000, and the enforcement is linked to obligations under the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021, including due-diligence provisions that prohibit hosting obscene/pornographic material.

Broader context

This is not the first such move. In July 2025, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) ordered the blocking of 25 OTT platforms for allegedly streaming obscene/vulgar content, with reports naming platforms such as Ullu and ALTT among those covered at the time.
