Dipika Kakar Shares Emotional Ordeal After Stage 2 Cancer Diagnosis

Television star Dipika Kakar, best known for her roles in Sasural Simar Ka and her win on Bigg Boss 12, has shared a deeply moving account of her battle with stage 2 liver cancer in her first vlog since undergoing surgery. The actor, who was discharged from the hospital 11 days after a 14-hour-long operation, spoke candidly about the toughest moments of her journey.

“We Both Broke Down in the Hospital Corridor”

In a 23-minute video titled “Thank You” on her YouTube channel Dipika Ki Duniya, the actress recalled the emotionally crushing moment when she and her husband, actor Shoaib Ibrahim, learned the truth about her diagnosis.

  • “Around a month ago, we found out there was a tumour. The word ‘surgery’ itself terrified me,” Dipika said.
  • Shoaib had known about the diagnosis but initially withheld the details to protect her from panic.
  • “When I saw the reports, I realised it wasn’t okay. We were in the hospital corridor. We both just broke down. Hearing the word ‘malignant’ or ‘cancer’ puts you in a different space altogether. I just hugged Shoaib tightly,” she shared.

Forced to Wean Off Her Son Overnight

Dipika, who is also mother to two-year-old son Ruhaan, revealed that one of the most heartbreaking aspects of her treatment was being forced to stop breastfeeding her child overnight.

“I had to wean off Ruhaan in just one night. I cried a lot. I hadn’t imagined it would happen this way,” she said tearfully.

Grateful for Fans and Family Support

The actress, who recently appeared on Celebrity MasterChef, also expressed immense gratitude for the love and prayers she received.

  • “When I was in the ICU, Shoaib kept telling me that so many people were praying for me. I used to cry happy tears. It made me feel blessed and a little proud that I have so much love,” Dipika said.
  • “There is still a long way to go,” she added about her ongoing recovery.
