The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) has issued a public appeal urging the film and television fraternity to come together in support of actor Rajpal Yadav, who recently surrendered at Delhi’s Tihar Jail in connection with a long-running check-bounce case.
FWICE said the appeal is “not an appeal for charity, but a call for solidarity,” adding that even small contributions can help in settling the dues.
What FWICE Said
In its letter, FWICE described Rajpal as a long-time industry member and urged producers, actors, technicians, and associations to extend support during what it termed a phase of severe personal and financial distress, noting that the federation can also route contributions with “complete transparency.”
FWICE President B N Tiwari said the federation stands with Rajpal, while chief advisor-producer Ashoke Pandit said the effort is meant to encourage more people to step forward.
Why Rajpal Yadav Landed in Jail
Rajpal surrendered after the Delhi High Court declined to grant further relief/time in cheque-bounce matters linked to liabilities that reportedly ballooned to around ₹9 crore over the years.
A legal report on the Delhi High Court order notes Rajpal was directed to surrender to serve the sentence awarded by the trial court, and records that he was liable to pay ₹1.35 crore in each of seven cases.
Industry Support Already Starting to Come In
The appeal follows public offers of help from colleagues. For instance, Sonu Sood offered Rajpal work and a signing amount, framing it as dignity, not charity.
India Today‘s report announced assistance including ₹1.11 crore by music producer Rao Inderjeet Singh Yadav and ₹11 lakh by politician Tej Pratap Yadav.
What FWICE Wants the Fraternity to Do
FWICE’s message is straightforward: step in with practical help—financial support to clear dues, and professional support so the actor is not isolated while navigating the fallout.
