In a shocking turn at the monthly hearing of the Renukaswamy murder case, actor Darshan Thoogudeepa broke down while addressing the judge. Appearing via video conference from prison, the Kannada superstar sobbed, saying the conditions inside the jail were “intolerable” and pleaded for poison to end his misery.
“I Can’t Live Like This Anymore” – Darshan’s Emotional Outburst
During the hearing before the 64th City Civil and Sessions Court (CCH), Darshan described his deteriorating state behind bars:
- Fungal infections on his hands
- Smelly clothes without proper cleaning
- No sunlight for days
- Mental breakdown due to isolation
In his own words, Darshan pleaded:
“I can’t live like this anymore. Please, just give me poison. Life here has become unbearable.”
The judge firmly rejected the request, responding, “Such things cannot be done. That is not possible.”
Case That Shook Sandalwood
Darshan’s current plight is directly tied to the murder of 33-year-old Renukaswamy from Chitradurga. Police allege that:
- Renukaswamy, a devoted fan, sent obscene messages to Darshan’s associate, Pavithra Gowda.
- He was allegedly abducted and tortured in a Bengaluru shed.
- His body was later discovered in a drain, sparking nationwide outrage.
Darshan, arrested in June 2024, was briefly out on bail after the Karnataka High Court’s order in December 2024. However, the Supreme Court cancelled his bail on August 14, 2025, citing serious risks of witness tampering. He was re-arrested and ordered to face custody without special privileges.
Court Updates: Next Big Move on September 19
At the same hearing, discharge petitions of other accused (numbers 13 and 14) were taken up. The court scheduled September 19, 2025, for framing of charges.
Meanwhile, Darshan’s separate plea for a bed, mattress, and prevention of transfer to Ballari prison will be decided later today.
Star Power vs. Harsh Reality
Darshan’s meltdown has triggered fiery debates:
- Fans: They claim the superstar is being “mentally broken” behind bars and denied basic dignity.
- Critics: They argue this is poetic justice—a man once adored as a hero now reduced to begging for relief after being accused of a heinous crime.
- Political voices: Some whisper whether the strict stance by the judiciary is also a warning shot to powerful celebrities that no one is above the law.
The Burning Question
Darshan’s plea lays bare a harsh truth: India’s prisons remain inhumane even for the privileged. If a superstar cries for poison, what must ordinary undertrials be going through?
The courtroom may have rejected his wish, but outside, the debate is raging: Is Darshan a victim of a broken system—or is this the weight of justice finally catching up with him?
