Hari Hara Veera Mallu: Part 1 – Sword vs Spirit, a highly anticipated Telugu-language historical action-adventure film, is set to hit theaters on June 12, 2025, after multiple delays. Starring Pawan Kalyan as the titular outlaw Veera Mallu, the film has generated buzz for its grand scale and stellar cast. Directed by Krish Jagarlamudi and A.M. Jyothi Krishna, this period drama promises a thrilling tale set in the 17th-century Mughal Empire. This article explores the release date, production journey, and what fans can anticipate.

Release Date and Delays

Initially announced in January 2020, Hari Hara Veera Mallu faced significant setbacks due to the COVID-19 pandemic and Pawan Kalyan’s political commitments as Andhra Pradesh’s Deputy Chief Minister. Originally slated for January 14, 2022, the release was postponed to April 29, 2022, then March 30, 2023, and later March 28, 2025, due to incomplete shoots and Kalyan’s unavailability. In March 2025, the date shifted to May 9, 2025, before the makers, Mega Surya Production, finalized June 12, 2025, as confirmed by  BookMyShow.

The final filming wrapped on May 6, 2025, nearly five years after production began in September 2020. The film, initially planned as a single feature, was split into two parts in May 2024, with Part 1 focusing on Veera Mallu’s early revolt against Mughal oppression. Post-theatrical streaming rights were acquired by Amazon Prime Video, though an OTT release date remains unconfirmed.

Plot and Cast

Set in the Mughal era, the film follows Veera Mallu, a fearless warrior tasked with stealing the Koh-i-Noor diamond from the Mughals while igniting a revolution against their army generals’ atrocities. Pawan Kalyan leads as Veera Mallu, with Nidhhi Agerwal as the female lead. Bobby Deol plays the antagonist, Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb, alongside Nora Fatehi, Nargis Fakhri, Anupam Kher, Nassar, Sunil, and Subbaraju. The ensemble cast and high-stakes narrative promise a visually spectacular saga, as teased in the May 2024 teaser.

The film’s score, composed by Oscar-winner M.M. Keeravani, has already garnered attention, with singles “Maata Vinaali” (January 17, 2025) and “Kollagottinadhiro” (February 24, 2025) released to positive reception. Cinematography by Gnana Shekar V.S. and Manoj Paramahamsa, with art direction by Thota Tharani, aims to recreate the 17th-century backdrop authentically.

Production Challenges and Fan Anticipation

The film’s prolonged production faced hurdles, including Krish Jagarlamudi’s partial exit due to other commitments, with Jyothi Krishna taking over to complete filming. Shooting spanned Hyderabad, Vijayawada, and Mumbai, with the final schedule concluding in May 2025. Despite rumors of shelving, producer A.M. Rathnam’s assurance in February 2025 kept fans hopeful.

The Rs 200 crore budget underscores the film’s ambition, with VFX and dubbing in Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam aiming for a pan-Indian appeal.

What to Expect

Hari Hara Veera Mallu: Part 1 promises a blend of action, drama, and historical intrigue, with Pawan Kalyan’s portrayal of a revolutionary outlaw expected to resonate widely, especially in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. The film’s scale, bolstered by Keeravani’s music and Deol’s menacing Aurangzeb, positions it as a major 2025 release.

The June 12, 2025, theatrical release will test the film’s ability to live up to its hype. With Amazon Prime Video securing streaming rights, global audiences await the saga’s digital debut. For now, Kalyan’s return to the big screen after a decade of political focus is set to ignite cinemas.
