India Must Reinvest in Civilisational Values to Drive Prosperity: H M Bangur at WHEF 2025

Mumbai, Dec 20 (PTI) — Industrialist H M Bangur, Chairman of Shree Cement, stressed the need for India to reinvest in its civilisational values to achieve sustainable prosperity at the World Hindu Economic Forum (WHEF) 2025 in Mumbai. The two-day conference, themed “Innovation, Self Reliance and Prosperity”, was inaugurated by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, with Madhya Pradesh CM Mohan Yadav, Swami Vigyananand, and leading industrialists including Sajjan Jindal in attendance.

During his address, Shri Bangur emphasized India’s talent, resources, and technology, asserting the country need not look abroad for inspiration. Highlighting ethical economic principles, he said, “dharma guides artha” and profit must always come with responsibility. He urged India to move away from the Macaulayan education system and revive its traditional values, noting that India once accounted for 30% of the global economy before European colonisation.

Shri Bangur also handed over a letter of intent to invest ₹2,000 crore in Maharashtra to CM Fadnavis. Speaking on innovation, he shared how Shree Cement enhanced energy efficiency, enabling power plants to operate at 30% capacity rather than 60%, reducing coal consumption significantly. He called for a mindset shift in education and industry to foster innovation.

CM Fadnavis described WHEF as a vital platform for dialogue and collaboration, rooted in Hindu economic philosophy, which can help build a prosperous and harmonious society. CM Yadav highlighted India’s rising global stature and Madhya Pradesh’s role in driving growth, citing ₹8.5 lakh crore in investments and development across mining, energy, tourism, and religious tourism sectors.
