Subrahmanyam attributed this achievement to favorable geopolitical dynamics and robust economic conditions currently benefiting India. He noted that only the United States, China, and Germany now have larger economies, positioning India as a major global economic player with increasing international influence.
Amitabh Bachchan Expresses Joy and National Pride
Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan expressed his elation over India’s economic ascent through social media. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Bachchan shared his heartfelt congratulations, stating, “Jai Hind! India 4th largest economy in the World… and in another 2.5 to 3 yrs shall become the 3rd largest economy in the World!!”
In his blog, Bachchan elaborated on the significance of this achievement, highlighting India’s progress since gaining independence over 75 years ago. He wrote, “What an incredible achievement for a country that became Independent just 75 yrs + ago… How many other nations that got Independent 75 years back have attained this kind of achievement.”
Saluting the Agniveers: A Tribute to Young Defenders
Beyond celebrating economic success, Bachchan paid tribute to the Agniveers, young soldiers serving under India’s Agnipath scheme. He praised their courage and commitment, stating, “The Agniveers are young, dynamic fighters serving under India’s Agnipath scheme. Trained with discipline and patriotism, they embody courage and commitment.”
Bachchan emphasized the role of these soldiers in modernizing India’s defense forces, noting their service duration of four years and the vital military experience they gain. He concluded, “I salute them in facing the enemy with courage and valour.”
National and Industry Leaders React to Economic Milestone
Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal celebrated India’s achievement, attributing the milestone to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership since 2014. At a ‘Mann Ki Baat’ listening event and Tiranga Yatra in Dibrugarh, Assam, Sonowal emphasized the importance of citizen involvement in nation-building and the realization of Modi’s vision of a ‘Viksit Bharat’ (developed India).
Industrialist Anand Mahindra also expressed his pride and optimism on social media, recalling how surpassing Japan in GDP once seemed like an ambitious and distant dream. He emphasized that this new economic status is no longer theoretical but a reality, underscoring India’s ongoing economic rise.
Implications for India’s Future Growth
India’s ascent to the fourth-largest economy is rooted in a blend of strong domestic consumption and dynamic global trade. This achievement positions India as a major global economic player with increasing international influence. However, challenges like income inequality persist, and continued efforts are necessary to ensure inclusive growth.
The government and industry leaders are optimistic about India’s trajectory, with projections suggesting that India could become the third-largest economy by 2028. This would require sustained economic reforms, infrastructure development, and investment in human capital.
Focus on sustainable development
India’s rise to the position of the world’s fourth-largest economy marks a significant milestone in its economic journey. The nation’s progress is a testament to its resilience, strategic policymaking, and the collective efforts of its citizens. As India continues on this path, the focus remains on achieving inclusive and sustainable growth, ensuring that the benefits of economic advancement reach all segments of society.
