Indian OTT Breakthrough: Taskaree Hits No. 1 on Netflix’s Global Non-English TV Chart

A still from "Taskaree"

Netflix’s Indian thriller Taskaree: The Smuggler’s Web has scripted a landmark moment for desi OTT—becoming the first Indian series to top Netflix’s Global Top 10 Non-English TV list, debuting at No. 1 in its opening week on the chart.

The numbers that matter

Netflix Tudum’s weekly rankings for Jan 12–18, 2026 place Taskaree at #1 with 5.4 million views for the week—released mid-window on January 14, 2026.

The second-ranked title logged 4.0 million views in the same period, underlining the scale of Taskaree’s opening-week traction.

Global footprint

Reports also note the show’s rapid international spread—#1 in nine countries and Top 10 in 23 markets in its opening week—signalling how far Indian stories are travelling when the hook is sharp and accessible.

What the show is—and why it’s clicking

Created by Neeraj Pandey and directed/co-directed by Raghav Jairath, Taskaree is built around the high-pressure ecosystem of customs enforcement at Mumbai Airport, tracking officers who take on an entrenched smuggling network—more procedural and character-led than spectacle-driven.

The series features Emraan Hashmi in the lead, alongside Zoya Afroz, Amruta Khanvilkar, Sharad Kelkar, Nandish Singh Sandhu, and Anurag Sinha (as reported).

What the team said

Reacting to the global ranking, Emraan Hashmi described the #1 position as “incredibly gratifying,” while Neeraj Pandey called it a significant moment for Indian storytelling—proof that narratives rooted in India’s realities can resonate far beyond the home market.

A New Horizon Awaits

Taskaree didn’t just trend—it converted global curiosity into measurable viewing. As Indian OTT pushes into international charts with grounded, high-stakes storytelling, the message is clear: authenticity travels—especially when the craft is tight.
