International Composer Accuses T-Series of Plagiarism Over ‘Raanjhan’ Track

A still from the song "Raanjhan"

An international music producer, known by the moniker KMKZ, has leveled serious plagiarism allegations against India’s prominent music label, T-Series. The accusation pertains to the song “Raanjhan” from the Netflix film Do Patti, starring Kriti Sanon and Shaheer Sheikh. KMKZ claims that the track’s beats were originally his creation, which were allegedly used without proper credit or compensation.

The Allegation

In a video shared on Instagram, KMKZ explained that approximately two years ago, he posted a beat online, which he later discovered had been used in “Raanjhan” without his knowledge. He stated, “I produced the number one song in India, and I didn’t even know about it.” Upon learning that the song had amassed over 290 million streams on Spotify and topped the Indian Billboard charts, KMKZ expressed his shock at not being credited. Despite reaching out to T-Series, the artists involved, and the production team, he reported receiving no response. He emphasized that his beat was sourced from YouTube and used without any form of acknowledgment or remuneration.

The Success of ‘Raanjhan’

“Raanjhan,” composed by Sachet-Parampara and sung by Parampara Tandon, was featured in Do Patti, a thriller released on Netflix on October 25, 2024. The song quickly gained popularity, becoming one of the most-streamed tracks in India and achieving significant chart success. Its widespread acclaim has now brought the plagiarism allegations into the spotlight.

Industry Reactions

The music industry has witnessed several instances of copyright disputes in recent years, but the scale of this particular case has drawn considerable attention. KMKZ’s appeal to the public for assistance in bringing his case to light reflects the challenges faced by independent producers in protecting their work. The lack of response from T-Series and the artists involved has raised questions about the industry’s practices regarding intellectual property rights.

T-Series’ Response

As of now, T-Series has not issued an official statement addressing the allegations made by KMKZ. The absence of a response has further fueled discussions about transparency and accountability within the music industry, particularly concerning the treatment of independent creators.

Looking Ahead

This controversy underscores the importance of safeguarding intellectual property rights and ensuring that all contributors receive due credit and compensation for their work. It also highlights the challenges faced by emerging artists and producers in an industry dominated by major labels. The outcome of this case could set a precedent for how similar disputes are handled in the future, potentially leading to more stringent measures to protect the rights of all creators.

As the situation develops, stakeholders within the music industry and the public await a response from T-Series and the artists involved, hoping for a resolution that upholds the principles of fairness and respect for intellectual property.
