Kishtwar/Jammu, Dec 22 (PTI) Several Hindu organisations, along with the BJP, on Monday staged a protest in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar district against incidents of violence, arson, looting and killings of members of the Hindu community in Bangladesh, as the town observed a bandh called by the Sanatan Dharm Sabha.
Led by Sanatan Dharm Sabha president Mahant Ram Sharan Dass Acharya, protesters gathered at Kuleed Chowk and sat on a dharna, expressing concern over the continued persecution of Hindus in the neighbouring country. Shops and business establishments remained shut during the bandh.
The demonstrators raised slogans and spoke about attacks on temples, violence against women and targeted killings of Hindus in Bangladesh. Senior BJP leaders, including Leader of Opposition in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Sunil Sharma, joined the protest.
“On the call of the Sanatan Dharm Sabha, Kishtwar observed a bandh to protest the atrocities being committed against Hindus in Bangladesh,” Sharma told reporters. He said the Hindu community stood firmly with those facing violence across the border. “Hindus are being attacked, temples are being targeted, and a factory worker, Dipu, was brutally lynched,” he said.
Protesters said a memorandum would be submitted to the President of India, the Prime Minister and the Union ministers for home and external affairs, urging the Centre to intervene to ensure the safety of Hindus in Bangladesh and protect their properties and religious shrines.
Another protest leader, Rocky Goswami, said there was widespread anger among the people over the killing of Dipu Das in Bangladesh. “In protest against these incidents, a bandh was observed in Kishtwar. Members of the Sanatan community have come together in large numbers to express their anger and concern,” he said. PTI AB AB ARB ARB
