Global pop star Jackson Wang, formerly of GOT7, shared raw insights into his struggles with loneliness and the creative process behind his upcoming album Magic Man 2, set for release on July 18, 2025. In an exclusive interview in Mumbai on June 14, 2025, the Hong Kong-born artist discussed his emotional journey, expressing a strong desire to include India in his anticipated world tour. Wang, who collaborates with Diljit Dosanjh on the single “BUCK,” aims to connect with Indian fans through his introspective music and electrifying performances.

Wang’s Magic Man 2, a sequel to his 2022 album Magic Man, delves into grief, identity, and personal growth across four phases: denial, loss of identity, finding boundaries, and acceptance. The lead single High Alone, released on February 13, 2025, explores loneliness and self-harm, with Wang admitting, “I was recording, writing, and just cried… I couldn’t write for weeks.” The album’s noir-inspired aesthetics and cinematic synths, as seen in GBAD and Hate to Love, reflect his emotional turbulence, blending alt-R&B and rock. Wang’s alter ego, Magic Man, evolves into a darker, self-destructive figure, contrasting the original’s fiery bravado.

India on the Tour Map

Wang’s love for India is evident, having performed at Lollapalooza Mumbai in January 2023, a historic moment as the first Chinese solo artist at Coachella. He expressed, “If there’s any opportunity, I’ll be there. Even if it’s just three people, I’ll give my all. Hopefully, India’s on the map for Magic Man 2’s tour.” His recent visit on June 10, 2025, meeting Hrithik Roshan and Disha Patani, deepened his connection to India’s vibrant culture. Posts on X buzzed with excitement, with fans chanting, “Jackson in India again? Let’s go!”

A Global Vision Rooted in Authenticity

Wang’s independent journey, free from a label, mirrors challenges faced by industries like Ollywood, striving for cultural storytelling. He told India Today, “Sometimes I miss a big team, but I’m honest with my fans.” His bond with BTS’ RM and Diljit Dosanjh underscores his collaborative spirit. With Magic Man 2, Wang aims to inspire fans to embrace their vulnerabilities, making his potential India tour a celebration of raw, universal emotions.
