Jerusalem, Dec 15 (PTI): External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar will arrive in Israel on Tuesday for a short visit during which he will meet the country’s top leadership and hold talks aimed at further deepening the strategic partnership, sources here said.

Jaishankar is scheduled to call on President Isaac Herzog and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and hold bilateral consultations with his Israeli counterpart, Gideon Sa’ar, they said.

“The discussions will revolve around bilateral and regional issues to continue to deepen the strategic partnership between the two countries,” a source told PTI.

The visit comes days after Netanyahu spoke with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with both leaders agreeing to meet “very soon”.

The engagement also builds on a series of high-level exchanges this year. Israel’s Minister of Tourism Haim Katz, Minister of Economy and Industry Nir Barkat, Minister of Agriculture and Food Security Avi Dichter and Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich have all visited India in 2025 as the two sides work to accelerate a proposed Free Trade Agreement (FTA).

During Smotrich’s visit, the two countries signed a Bilateral Investment Treaty (BIT). This was followed by the signing of a Terms of Reference (ToR) for an FTA during the visit of Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal to Israel last month.
