Washington, Oct 28 (AP): Japan’s new Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi has informed US President Donald Trump that she intends to nominate him for the Nobel Peace Prize, the White House said on Tuesday.

In recent months, several foreign leaders have either supported or offered to back Trump’s nomination in an effort to strengthen diplomatic ties. On Monday, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet also nominated Trump during his visit.

Trump did not win the prize this year but highlighted that the decision was made before his US-brokered ceasefire helped halt fighting between Israel and Hamas in Gaza.

The announcement came as Trump kicked off one of the busiest days of his Asia tour, greeting Japan’s new leader before scheduled interactions with US troops aboard an aircraft carrier and meetings with business executives.
