Kajol Unleashes Maternal Fury in Mythological Horror ‘Maa’

Bollywood actress Kajol is set to make a powerful return to the silver screen with the upcoming mythological horror film Maa, directed by Vishal Furia. The film’s trailer, unveiled at a grand event in Mumbai, has already stirred significant excitement among fans and critics alike.

A Gripping Tale of Maternal Courage

In Maa, Kajol portrays a fiercely protective mother who confronts malevolent supernatural forces to save her daughter. The narrative unfolds in the eerie forests of Chandanpur, West Bengal, where a demonic entity demands the blood of young girls. The trailer showcases Kajol’s character battling these dark forces, highlighting her transformation into a warrior driven by maternal love. 

Expansion of the ‘Shaitaan’ Universe

Maa is set within the universe of the 2024 film Shaitaan, which was a significant success in the Indian horror genre. Produced by Ajay Devgn, who also produced Shaitaan, Maa continues the exploration of supernatural themes rooted in Indian mythology. Devgn emphasized the uniqueness of mythological horror in Indian cinema, stating, “We have been hearing such mythological stories but nobody has attempted it. Hence, we made it.” 

Collaborative Effort Behind the Scenes

The film boasts a strong creative team, with Vishal Furia directing and Saiwyn Quadras and Aamil Keeyan Khan penning the script. Ajay Devgn, along with Jyoti Deshpande and Kumar Mangat Pathak, serves as the producer. The cast includes Ronit Bose Roy, Indraneil Sengupta, and Kherin Sharma in pivotal roles. 

After reviewing initial cuts of the film, Devgn suggested incorporating additional action sequences to enhance the narrative’s emotional depth and intensity. This led to a five-day reshoot in Mumbai, focusing on realistic and contextually driven action scenes choreographed by RP Yadav. 

Anticipated Release and Multilingual Reach

Maa is scheduled for a theatrical release on June 27, 2025, and will be available in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, and Bengali. Following its theatrical run, the film is set to stream on Netflix, allowing a broader audience to experience this mythological horror tale.

This film marks Kajol’s first venture into the horror genre, showcasing her versatility as an actress. Her portrayal of a mother confronting supernatural evil adds a new dimension to her illustrious career.
