Karanvir Sharma Breaks Silence: Why He Rejected Bigg Boss 19 for Kajol’s The Trial 2

Karanvir Sharma

Actor Karanvir Sharma, best known for balancing both television and film with equal flair, has finally addressed why he turned down Bigg Boss 19. Ahead of the release of Kajol-starrer The Trial 2 on JioHotstar (streaming from September 19), Sharma confessed that he chose quality storytelling over reality-show fame. And his reasons are brutally honest.

Why Karanvir Said No to Bigg Boss 19

The actor revealed that he has been offered Bigg Boss multiple times, including this year. But he refused it yet again.

“I said no to Bigg Boss 19 this year. It is offered to me every year. I refused because I wanted to concentrate on The Trial. They deserve my attention, and I want to be available and accessible for more work like that,” Sharma said.

For Karanvir, a courtroom drama with Kajol was worth more than 24×7 cameras and controversial fights inside Salman Khan’s reality show. His bold choice exposes the ongoing debate—is reality TV a shortcut to fame or a distraction from real craft?

On Looks, Labels, and Bollywood Bias

In a surprisingly candid confession, Sharma admitted that his biggest disadvantage in Bollywood has been his “typical Bollywood hero looks.”

“I look like a rich brat with sharp features, and that’s all people see. I don’t want to be boxed into clichés. I’m an actor first,” he said.

He also pointed out the industry’s bias against television actors, who are often dismissed as being “too busy” for films. But he believes that myth is breaking now as Bollywood faces a shortage of “good, talented actors.”

Entering The Trial 2 with Kajol

Karanvir plays Param Munjal, a complex character who blurs the lines between rivalry and attraction with Kajol’s Noyonika. The role, inspired loosely by The Good Wife’s Derrick Bond, demanded him to be “charming, smooth-talking, and convincing.”

Despite joining in the second season, Sharma admitted Kajol made him feel comfortable on set, though the bond wasn’t as strong as with the original cast.

Struggles Behind the Camera

The 39-year-old actor also shared how the offer came at one of his lowest personal phases, when his aunt was undergoing multiple surgeries.

“Not every brave person has brave days. I was questioning myself, the universe, and God. Then this role came, and I told myself, ‘Don’t mess up the audition.’”

His honesty resonates in an industry that rarely admits vulnerability.

Final Word

Turning down Bigg Boss 19 might look like a gamble, but for Sharma, it’s a statement of intent. He doesn’t want quick fame; he wants meaningful roles. With The Trial 2 set to stream this week, the actor may just silence critics who once dismissed him as another “television face.”

If anything, Karanvir Sharma has proved that substance will always beat spectacle—even when Bigg Boss tempts you with its glitter.
