Karwa Chauth, Somewhere Above the Clouds: Priyanka Chopra Jonas on a Night She Won’t Forget

Priyanka Chopra and Kapil Sharma met on The Great Indian Kapil Sharma Show season 4 sets.

Karwa Chauth is usually defined by waiting — for the moon, for the moment, for the fast to finally end. It unfolds quietly, often from balconies and terraces, shaped by patience and ritual. But for Priyanka Chopra Jonas, one Karwa Chauth took a turn even she didn’t see coming.

Instead of scanning the night sky from the ground, she ended up breaking her fast above the clouds.

The actor shared the anecdote during her appearance on The Great Indian Kapil Show Season 4 on Netflix, where she featured in the season premiere.

When the moon refused to show up

Recalling the night, Priyanka said the plan was simple: follow the ritual, wait for the moon, and then break the fast. But the weather didn’t cooperate. Clouds rolled in, rain threatened, and the moon stayed hidden.

“We kept looking for it everywhere,” she recalled on the show, adding that they waited late into the night with no luck.

A solution that came from instinct

That’s when Nick Jonas stepped in with an unusual fix. Priyanka revealed that Nick took her up in his plane — flying above the cloud cover — where the moon was finally visible.

“He flew me above the clouds, and that’s how I broke my Karwa Chauth fast,” she said, drawing cheers and laughter from the audience.

It didn’t come across as a rehearsed grand gesture — more like a practical, heartfelt attempt to make sure a moment that mattered didn’t slip away.

Ease, trust, and not needing to perform love

The story surfaced amid light banter with Kapil Sharma, who teased Priyanka about on-screen flirting. Her response was calm and unbothered: Nick, she implied, is secure — and she’s going home to him.

The line landed because it wasn’t dramatic. It suggested a relationship rooted in comfort rather than performance.

When a ritual becomes a family practice

Priyanka also spoke about how the festival has gradually become more “family” than “formal.” She shared that her mother-in-law sends her sargi every year — a gesture she clearly cherishes — and that Karwa Chauth has become one of Nick’s favourite festivals.

Over time, the ritual has turned into something shared, shaped by familiarity, care and cross-cultural warmth.

Seven years in, still making space for tradition

Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Nick Jonas married on December 1, 2018, in Rajasthan, following both Hindu and Christian ceremonies. As they complete seven years of marriage in 2025, moments like this offer a glimpse into how they carry traditions across cultures — not as obligation, but as choice.

On the work front

Professionally, Priyanka continues to straddle Indian and international projects. She is part of SS Rajamouli’s globe-trotting film Varanasi (SSMB29), headlined by Mahesh Babu. She has also been announced for Krrish 4, which is set to mark Hrithik Roshan’s directorial debut.

Internationally, she appeared in the action-comedy Heads of State, which was released on Prime Video on July 2, 2025, and is also attached to the upcoming swashbuckler action drama The Bluff.
