Kozhikode (Kerala), Jan 22 (PTI): Celebrated NASA astronaut Sunita Williams arrived in Kozhikode on Wednesday night to attend the Kerala Literature Festival (KLF), organised by DC Books. Her visit, running through January 25, is being seen as a major highlight of the festival, promising to inspire readers, students, and space enthusiasts alike.
Williams will grace the inaugural event on Thursday evening alongside Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. The event will also feature key dignitaries including Kerala Tourism Minister P A Muhammad Riyas, Tamil Nadu Minister Palanivel Thiaga Rajan, MP Thamizhachi Thangapandian, Kozhikode Mayor O Sadashivan, poet K Satchidanandan, actors Bhavana and Prakash Raj, Nirmala Lakshman, Chairperson of The Hindu Group, bureaucrat Divya S Iyer, German Consul General Achim Burkart, Dr Marla Stukenberg of the Goethe Institute, Dr Sayed Ibrahim, and A Pradeepkumar.
Later on Thursday night, Williams will lead a session titled “Dreams Reach Orbit: Meet the Astronaut Who Touched the Sky”, moderated by Preeti Choudhry, sharing her experiences of space travel and her journey to becoming a celebrated astronaut.
On Friday morning, she will interact with young attendees during the Children’s KLF session “Once Upon a Time in Space”, moderated by actress Rima Kallingal. On January 25, Williams will participate in “Astronaut’s Odyssey”, moderated by Barkha Dutt, followed by an evening session “When Earth Can’t Keep You Down”, led by writer Manu S Pillai.
Williams, a veteran of long-duration missions aboard the International Space Station, is expected to share insights on her space expeditions, scientific research, and the spirit of exploration, inspiring audiences on science, education, and the limitless possibilities of human achievement.
