A major controversy has erupted around actor-dancer Nora Fatehi’s latest song from the upcoming Kannada film KD: The Devil, after the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) issued a notice to the film’s makers over allegations of vulgar and suggestive content.
The track, titled ‘Sarke Chunar Teri Sarke’ (Hindi) and ‘Sarse Ninna Seraga Sarse’ (Kannada), also features actor Sanjay Dutt and was released as part of the film’s promotional campaign. However, soon after its release, the song triggered widespread backlash across social media platforms, with viewers criticising its lyrics, choreography, and visual treatment as “obscene” and “inappropriate.”
NHRC Steps In, Demands Action
Taking cognisance of the growing outrage, the NHRC issued a formal notice to the makers of KD: The Devil, seeking an explanation and calling for appropriate action regarding the controversial content. The complaint reportedly highlighted the use of “sexually suggestive and obscene lyrics,” raising concerns about its potential impact on younger audiences.
The notice came after a legal complaint was filed by a social activist, urging authorities to take strict action and ensure the removal of the song from public platforms.
Song Removed Amid Mounting Pressure
Following the backlash and legal scrutiny, the makers acted swiftly and removed both versions of the song from YouTube and other streaming platforms. The move is being seen as a damage-control measure amid intensifying criticism and institutional intervention.
Reports indicate that the song had gone viral within hours of its release, particularly for its high-energy dance sequences and a hook step performed by Nora Fatehi. However, the same elements soon became the focal point of criticism, with many accusing the creators of crossing the line between entertainment and obscenity.
Industry and Public Reactions
The controversy has sparked a broader debate within the entertainment industry about creative freedom versus social responsibility. Several public figures and social media users have expressed concern over what they describe as the increasing normalisation of explicit content in mainstream cinema.
Critics argue that such portrayals can negatively influence impressionable audiences, while others defend artistic expression, stating that censorship should not stifle creativity.
About the Film
Directed by Prem, KD: The Devil is an upcoming pan-India period action drama starring Dhruva Sarja in the lead, alongside Sanjay Dutt and Nora Fatehi. The film is backed by KVN Productions and is slated for release later in 2026.
What Lies Ahead
While the makers are yet to issue a detailed official statement, the NHRC notice has intensified scrutiny on the film’s promotional strategies. The incident underscores the growing role of regulatory bodies and public sentiment in shaping the boundaries of content in Indian cinema.
As the debate continues, the controversy surrounding KD: The Devil highlights the delicate balance between mass appeal and cultural sensitivity in today’s media landscape.
