Academy Award–winning actor Nicolas Cage is set to front Spider-Noir, a live-action series based on Marvel’s Spider-Man Noir comics, slated to premiere in 2026. Produced by Sony Pictures Television, the show will first air on MGM+’s linear channel in the United States, followed by a global rollout on Prime Video the next day.

The project marks a major expansion of Sony’s Marvel universe into darker, genre-driven storytelling, blending superhero spectacle with classic noir aesthetics.

A Dark, 1930s Take on the Spider-Man Mythos

Set in 1930s New York, Spider-Noir reimagines the Spider-Man legend in a shadowy, crime-ridden city shaped by Depression-era anxieties.

Cage will play Ben Reilly, portrayed here as a weary, down-on-his-luck private investigator forced to confront the ghosts of his past as the city’s only superhero. The character’s dual life as a PI and masked vigilante promises a more grounded, morally ambiguous take on the superhero genre, rooted in noir tropes like fatalism, flawed heroes, and shadow-filled cityscapes.

Shot in Black-and-White and Colour

One of the series’ most striking creative choices is its dual-format presentation. Spider-Noir will be released in both black-and-white and colour, a deliberate homage to the noir comic aesthetic and the visual language of classic Hollywood crime dramas.

This stylistic decision is designed to:

  1. Deepen immersion into 1930s New York, with its foggy alleys, rain-slicked streets, and stark contrasts.
  2. Emphasise the darker, moodier tone typical of noir storytelling, where light and shadow often mirror moral grey zones.

The approach positions Spider-Noir as a stylistically bold entry in the superhero space, appealing equally to comic-book fans and cinephiles.

Ensemble Cast Backed by Heavyweight Creators

The series brings together a star-studded ensemble alongside Cage. The main cast includes

  1. Lamorne Morris, comedian and actor
  2. Li Jun Li
  3. Karen Rodriguez
  4. Abraham Popoola
  5. Jack Huston
  6. Brendan Gleeson, Academy Award–nominated and Emmy-winning actor

They will be joined by an impressive slate of guest stars, including Lukas Haas, Cameron Britton, Cary Christopher, Michael Kostroff, Scott MacArthur, Joe Massingill, Whitney Rice, Amanda Schull, Andrew Caldwell, Amy Aquino, Andrew Robinson, and Kai Caster.

Behind the camera, the show is powered by major industry names:

  1. Harry Bradbeer – the Emmy-winning director of Fleabag and Killing Eve – will direct and executive produce the first two episodes.
  2. Oren Uziel (The Lost City, 22 Jump Street) and Steve Lightfoot (Marvel’s The Punisher, Shantaram) serve as co-showrunners and executive producers, blending action, dark humour and character-driven drama.

From the Minds Behind ‘Into the Spider-Verse’

The project has been developed alongside the Oscar-winning team behind Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse: Phil Lord, Christopher Miller and Amy Pascal who also serve as executive producers through their respective banners.

Their involvement signals a strong creative continuity with Sony’s acclaimed multiverse storytelling while allowing Spider-Noir to carve out its own, more mature and noir-driven identity.

Positioned as a Major 2026 OTT Event

With its noir-infused visuals, prestige cast, and acclaimed creative team, Spider-Noir is already being positioned as one of 2026’s most anticipated streaming releases.

Landing first on MGM+ in the US before expanding globally via Prime Video, the series is expected to tap into the growing appetite for genre-bending superhero narratives that go beyond conventional origin stories.

For Nicolas Cage, who previously voiced Spider-Man Noir in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, this live-action turn offers a full-bodied return to the Spider-verse in a format that leans heavily into his flair for eccentric, brooding characters.

As production advances towards its 2026 premiere, Spider-Noir stands out as a high-profile experiment: a superhero drama dressed in trench coats and shadows, aiming to bring classic film noir sensibilities to the modern OTT superhero landscape.
