Actor R. Madhavan took to social media on March 3, 2026, to highlight a passenger-friendly directive from the United Arab Emirates that has brought relief to thousands of travellers caught in flight disruptions across major UAE airports. In a widely shared post on X (formerly Twitter), Madhavan wrote, “Great initiative by the UAE authorities! Stranded passengers at Dubai, Abu Dhabi & Sharjah airports will be provided free accommodation in hotels—no extra cost to passengers. Kudos to the UAE for putting people first during these tough times. Safe travels to everyone affected. ”

What the Directive Entails

According to official statements from the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) and airport operators:

  1. Airlines operating in the UAE are required to arrange complimentary hotel accommodation for passengers whose flights are delayed by more than 6 hours or cancelled due to reasons within the airline’s control (weather-related delays may qualify under humanitarian policy).
  2. The accommodation is provided at no additional cost to the passenger.
  3. Meals, ground transportation between airport and hotel (where feasible), and basic refreshments are also covered in most cases.
  4. The directive applies to both outbound and inbound passengers, including transit travellers.

Madhavan, who frequently travels between India and the UAE for shoots and family visits, shared screenshots of airline advisories and passenger testimonials praising the swift implementation. Many netizens thanked him for amplifying the information, especially for Indian expatriates and tourists who form a large portion of travellers affected.

Passenger Reactions & Gratitude

Social media responses have been overwhelmingly positive:

  1. “Finally some good news! Was stuck at DXB for 14 hrs—hotel sorted free of cost. Thank you UAE ”
  2. “Madhavan sir spreading awareness like a true friend. Saved so many from paying crazy hotel rates.”
  3. “This is how aviation should work during crises. Respect to UAE authorities.”

The move has been hailed as a model for passenger rights in extreme weather or operational disruptions, especially compared to regions where stranded passengers often face high out-of-pocket expenses.
