Popular stand-up comedian Zakir Khan has addressed speculation around his health after announcing a break from live performances, insisting there is no major medical crisis behind the decision. In a recent public interaction, the comedian dismissed exaggerated online claims as false, saying what people have been reading on the internet is “jhooth.”
The rumours gained momentum after a clip from Zakir’s Papa Yaar tour stop in Hyderabad went viral, where he spoke about taking a long break and suggested it could last three to five years, with timelines possibly extending towards 2030.
Why he’s really stepping back
Zakir explained that the pause is primarily to focus on writing projects he hasn’t been able to pursue for years due to relentless touring and packed schedules. He also acknowledged that his health has been “a little off,” but stressed that it is not serious and has been blown out of proportion online.
Earlier, the comedian had also spoken about the physical toll of years of overwork and mentioned a family history of genetic illnesses that can surface later in life—another reason he wants to prioritise wellbeing and longevity.
What’s next
While the exact duration of the hiatus remains flexible, Zakir’s message to fans is clear: this is a pause for sustainable longevity and creative focus, not a permanent exit from comedy.
