The 2025 Nobel season concluded Monday with the announcement of the economics prize, awarded to Joel Mokyr, Philippe Aghion, and Peter Howitt for their groundbreaking research on innovation-driven growth and the theory of “creative destruction.”

All other Nobel Prizes were announced earlier this month, with ceremonies scheduled for December 10 in Stockholm and Oslo, marking the death anniversary of Alfred Nobel.

In medicine, Mary E. Brunkow, Fred Ramsdell, and Shimon Sakaguchi were honoured for discovering key immune system regulators known as T-cells. The physics award went to John Clarke, Michel H. Devoret, and John M. Martinis for their pioneering work on quantum tunnelling — the basis for faster computers and improved digital technology.

The chemistry prize was shared by Susumu Kitagawa, Richard Robson, and Omar M. Yaghi for developing molecular frameworks capable of capturing gases, a potential tool in tackling climate change.

In literature, Hungarian writer László Krasznahorkai was recognised for his surreal and darkly humorous novels that explore human despair and resilience.

The Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado for her courage in uniting a fractured opposition and standing up for democratic rights amid repression.

The 2025 Nobel winners reflect a blend of scientific innovation, creative brilliance, and political courage — continuing the spirit of Alfred Nobel’s vision for progress and peace.
