Theaters may be buzzing with War 2, Coolie, and Param Sundari, but for the rest of us glued to our couches, OTT platforms are delivering a loaded week. Between sequels of cult shows, hard-hitting crime thrillers, and Ashneer Grover making his OTT hosting debut, the lineup feels like a battle for your screen time.
Wednesday Season 2 Part 2 (Netflix – Sept 3)
The global phenomenon returns with its final two episodes. Jenna Ortega’s Wednesday has already broken records, and Netflix knows it’s sitting on gold. The question: Will Part 2 wrap the story neatly or drag like some past Netflix finales?
Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan (ZEE5 – Sept 5)
Vikrant Massey joins debutante Shanaya Kapoor in this romance-drama. Released theatrically in July, it’s now headed to ZEE5. Critics praised Massey’s performance but weren’t too kind to the film’s weak writing. Will the digital audience be more forgiving?
Maalik (Prime Video – Sept 5)
A gritty crime thriller starring Rajkummar Rao and Manushi Chhillar. The film underperformed in cinemas despite Rao’s powerhouse acting. OTT might just give it the recognition it deserves. Or, like many Bollywood thrillers, it could get lost in Prime’s cluttered catalog.
Inspector Zende (Netflix – Sept 5)
This one is already making noise. Manoj Bajpayee plays Madhukar Bapurao Zende, a sharp policeman chasing a killer played by Jim Sarbh. With this casting alone, the hype is real. If Netflix pulls it off, this could be India’s next crime-series obsession.
Junior (Prime Video – Sept 5)
A South Indian family entertainer with Keerthi Reddy, Sreeleela, and Genelia Deshmukh. Perfect for fans of emotional drama mixed with masala. But in a week full of thrillers, will Junior shine or sink?
Ghaati (Prime Video – Sept 5)
Anushka Shetty headlines this action-packed Telugu drama about a woman trapped in the drug underworld. Directed by Krish Jagarlamudi, it blends action with social commentary. Sounds promising — but let’s hope it doesn’t go the preachy route.
Kayattam (ZEE5 – Sept 5)
A Malayalam crime thriller following Inspector Antonio George investigating a conspiracy disguised as a murder. Malayalam OTT content rarely disappoints, so Kayattam could be the sleeper hit of the week.
Rise and Fall (MX Player – Sept 6)
Could you imagine Ashneer Grover hosting a reality show? That’s already spicy enough. Stars such as Arjun Bijlani, Kubra Sait, Kiku Sharda, and Dhanashree Verma join the circus as contestants face both fortune and downfall. Expect drama, memes, and plenty of trolling on social media.
International Picks (Jio Hotstar)
- The Paper (Sept 5): A political newsroom drama created by Greg Daniel & Michael Koman.
- Task (Sept 7): A crime series starring Mark Ruffalo, promising gritty international storytelling.
Final Take
This week is a buffet: Netflix is flexing big with Wednesday and Inspector Zende, Prime is betting on Maalik and Ghaati, while ZEE5 and MX Player want their share of the pie. But with so much dropping in just seven days, one truth is clear: the real battle isn’t theatres vs OTT anymore — it’s OTT vs your attention span.
