Chennai, Jan 23 (PTI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday asserted that the people of Tamil Nadu have decided to bid farewell to the “corrupt” DMK government ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections, as he launched the NDA’s campaign in the state.
Speaking ahead of a mega rally in Maduranthakam, Modi said the NDA’s governance record and commitment to regional aspirations were resonating strongly with the people. “Tamil Nadu is with NDA. It’s time to bid farewell to the corrupt DMK government. The NDA’s governance record and dedication to regional aspirations are striking a chord with the people,” he stated in a post on social media platform X.
The rally, held in suburban Maduranthakam, about 87 km from Chennai, saw participation from NDA leaders, including AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami, the alliance’s Chief Ministerial candidate. BJP Tamil Nadu election in-charge Piyush Goyal described the event as the “first step towards ending the DMK’s corruption-ridden government and ushering in good governance, opportunities, and prosperity for every section.”
Elaborate security arrangements were in place for the Prime Minister’s visit, including a helicopter landing area in Chengalpattu district to facilitate Modi’s arrival. The NDA’s campaign is expected to be a high-decibel effort to challenge the ruling DMK ahead of the Assembly polls.
