Guwahati, Jan 16 (PTI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi will arrive in Assam on January 17 for a two-day visit, his second trip to the state in less than a month, according to an official statement issued on Friday.

Soon after his arrival in Guwahati on Saturday evening, the prime minister will attend a grand cultural programme, where 10,000 artistes will perform the traditional Bodo folk dance ‘Bagurumba’ at the Arjun Bhogeswar Barua Sports Stadium.

On January 18, Modi will proceed to Kaliabor, where he will lay the foundation stone of the Rs 6,957-crore Kaziranga elevated corridor, a major infrastructure project aimed at improving connectivity while facilitating safe wildlife movement around Kaziranga National Park.

During the visit, the prime minister is also scheduled to virtually flag off two Amrit Bharat Express trains—the Dibrugarh–Gomti Nagar (Lucknow) service and the Kamakhya–Rohtak service—and address a public meeting in Kaliabor.

Modi had earlier visited Assam on December 20 for a two-day tour, during which he inaugurated the new terminal of Guwahati International Airport and unveiled the statue of Assam’s first chief minister, Gopinath Bardaloi, after whom the airport has been named. He had also laid the foundation stone for a Rs 10,601-crore brownfield ammonia-urea plant in Dibrugarh.

During his previous visit, the prime minister addressed public meetings in Guwahati and Namrup, widely seen as setting the political tone ahead of the 2026 Assam Assembly elections.
