Premiere Delay for ‘Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi 2’: Production Setback Pushes Launch Beyond July 3

premiere

The much-anticipated premiere of Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi 2, starring Smriti Irani and Amar Upadhyay, has been postponed. Originally slated for July 3, 2025—with symbolic timing marking the 25th anniversary of the iconic original daily soap—the launch has hit a snag due to creative decisions. Amar Upadhyay, reprising his role as Mihir Virani, confirmed that “Ektaa knows exactly what she wants… The set had to be reworked. Apparently, the color combination on screen wasn’t translating the way it should,” adding, “It’s not just another show. It’s a legacy, and she wants to do everything what’s best for the show.”

The delay stems from meticulous modifications being made to the set. These Vastu-based creative changes initially postponed the shoot, which was supposed to start in mid-June, to a confirmed start on July 3. Despite the adjustments, the producers intend to maintain the original mahurat ceremony on July 3, preserving the nostalgic connection to the original broadcast.

Filming Schedule & Nostalgic Beginnings

Production will commence with the formal mahurat shot on July 3, symbolically resonating with the original series’ launch date in 2000. “To start again, on the same date, feels like a full circle moment,” Amar noted, expressing the emotional resonance tied to the date.

The shooting is set to begin at Mumbai’s Filmcity, after resolving all aesthetic and Vastu considerations. According to sources, the production awaits full finalization, post which a firm premiere date will be announced.

Behind-the-Scenes Security & Protocol

Adding to the sense of occasion, lead actor Smriti Irani—now a prominent politician—will film under extraordinary security arrangements. Reports indicate that she will have Z-Plus security coverage during shoot days, her mobile devices will be monitored, and phone access on set will be heavily restricted.

These unprecedented measures reflect a confluence of entertainment and national duty, highlighting the protective protocols necessary for high-profile public personalities. And also underscore the meticulous planning by the production team to ensure seamless execution.

Cast Reunion and Show Format

The reboot brings back original cast members nearly 17 years after the first season ended in 2008. Both Smriti Irani and Amar Upadhyay are reprising their roles as Tulsi and Mihir Virani—characters who defined Indian television in the early 2000s.

Additionally, behind-the-scenes reports suggest Smriti Irani commands a staggering ₹1.4 crore (~₹14 million) per day for the role considerations go hand-in-hand with her political stature and star power.

Ekta Kapoor, founder of Balaji Telefilms, envisions this a finite season—approximately 150 episodes—designed to complete the 2,000-episode legacy begun by the original run from 2000 to 2008.

There are also rumors of cameo appearances by popular actors like Mouni Roy and Karishma Tanna in extended promotional sequences, though details remain unconfirmed.

Cast Reflections & Emotional Resonance

Amar Upadhyay expressed both excitement and nostalgia, saying, “We picked up exactly where we left off. Same comfort, same energy… felt familiar and warm—just like it used to be 25 years ago.”.

However, he also noted a bittersweet sentiment: the absence of Sudha Shivpuri, who portrayed ‘Baa’ in the original series. Amar emphasized the vacuum her passing leaves, particularly as her character was central to the show’s emotional heart.

What’s Next for Viewers & Fans

Although July 3, 2025, will mark the iconic mahurat ceremony, the premiere may now slide into later July or even early August. No exact new date has been announced yet. Audiences can expect promotional content—trailers, teasers, behind-the-scenes footage—soon, following full set confirmation.

With modernized storytelling, revamped aesthetics, and thoughtful homage to its legacy, Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi 2 is poised to blend nostalgia and contemporary drama effectively.

In Closing

Fans may need a bit more patience, but Ekta Kapoor’s insistence on perfection with set design and production values reflects her commitment to honouring the legacy of this seminal series. With the reunion of its original protagonists, modern storytelling, and symbolic timing, the sequel is shaping up to be more than just a nostalgic revival—it’s a contemporary retelling with emotional roots and renewed energy.

Stay tuned for updates on the confirmed premiere date, trailers, and further announcements as the team finalizes preparations.
