Ryan Gosling’s sci-fi adventure Project Hail Mary, directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, will now release in India on March 26, 2026. Sony Pictures India and IMAX India announced that the film will open in English, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu across IMAX and regular cinemas.
Dhurandhar 2 Clash Speculation
The release-date shift has widely been linked to Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar: The Revenge, which arrived in theatres on March 19.
Directors React with Humour
Speaking to Hindustan Times, Phil Lord reacted to the reversal of the old Hollywood-dominant release pattern with a laugh, saying, “How dare you have your own successful film industry?” Christopher Miller added that Indian films have been growing in visibility in the US, pointing to the wider crossover impact of RRR.
Strong Global Start Continues
Despite the India delay, Project Hail Mary has opened strongly overseas. Trade coverage reported a global opening weekend of about $141 million, including $80.6 million in the US and Canada and $60.4 million internationally, making it the biggest opening so far for an Amazon MGM Studios title.
Final Take
The India release adjustment reflects the growing weight of big local theatrical events. But the safest framing is that the delay was widely linked to Dhurandhar 2, not officially confirmed as a clash-avoidance strategy by the studio.
