New Delhi, Oct 21 (PTI) — Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday said that while there is instability on India’s borders, new forms of crime, terrorism, and ideological wars are emerging within society.

Speaking at the National Police Memorial on Police Commemoration Day, Singh said the military and police operate on different platforms but share the same mission — protecting the nation. He emphasized that balancing external and internal security is vital for achieving a Viksit Bharat by 2047.

A joint parade of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) and Delhi Police was held as part of the event. Singh noted that modern crime has become organised, complex, and invisible, aiming to create chaos, undermine trust, and challenge national stability.

He commended the police for preventing crime and maintaining public confidence, saying, “If people are sleeping peacefully today, it is due to their confidence in our vigilant armed forces and alert police. This confidence is the foundation of our country’s stability.”

Highlighting the fight against Naxalism, Singh said coordinated efforts by police, CRPF, BSF, and local administration have prevented escalation. He expressed confidence that the Naxal problem will end by March 2026, with former militants surrendering and districts transforming from red corridors to growth and educational hubs.

Singh reiterated the government’s commitment to national security and acknowledged the police’s enhanced capabilities under PM Modi, including modern weapons, surveillance systems, drones, forensic labs, and digital policing infrastructure.

Police Commemoration Day honours 10 CRPF personnel killed in an ambush by Chinese troops in Ladakh’s Hot Spring area in 1959.
