The first glimpse of Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana sparked criticism from a section of Ranbir Kapoor’s fans after it was unveiled in Los Angeles before its India release. While the teaser itself generated strong curiosity for its scale and Ranbir Kapoor’s look as Lord Rama, some social media users questioned why a film rooted in Indian mythology was first showcased overseas.
Why Fans Were Upset
The film’s first glimpse was screened at an IMAX theatre in Los Angeles, in the presence of Ranbir Kapoor, director Nitesh Tiwari and producer Namit Malhotra. Its India release was scheduled for April 2, prompting criticism from some fans who felt that Indian audiences should have been given the first official look. Reports noted that several users on X questioned the overseas-first strategy and argued that a story as culturally rooted as Ramayana should have debuted at home.
Film Details
Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, Ramayana stars Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Yash as Ravana, Sunny Deol as Hanuman, and Ravie Dubey as Lakshman. The project has been positioned as a large-scale two-part epic and remains one of the most anticipated Hindi films in production.
Release Plan
The film is planned as a two-part saga, with Part 1 slated for Diwali 2026 and Part 2 for Diwali 2027. Despite the criticism around the launch strategy, anticipation around the project remains high because of its cast, scale and mythological subject.
