Ranvir Shorey Reveals Why He Skipped Tiger Zinda Hai But Returned for Tiger 3

Ranvir Shorey

Bollywood actor Ranvir Shorey has made a candid revelation about why he chose to skip Salman Khan’s blockbuster sequel Tiger Zinda Hai but later agreed to appear in Tiger 3. His reasons—centered around pay cuts, reduced screen time, and sheer anger at the treatment of his character—have sparked chatter in the film industry.

Why Ranvir Said ‘No’ to Tiger Zinda Hai

Shorey played RAW agent Gopi Arya in Kabir Khan’s Ek Tha Tiger (2012), a role that earned him appreciation from both audiences and industry veterans like Yash Chopra and Salim Khan.

However, when Yash Raj Films (YRF) approached him for the sequel Tiger Zinda Hai, Shorey was left disappointed.

  1. His role in the script was significantly smaller than in the first film.
  2. Instead of a raise, his fee was cut down.
  3. He felt the production house’s offer undermined both his talent and the audience’s response to his character.

In his words, Shorey recalled: “My logic was simple—if my role was liked, then my screen time and fee should increase, not decrease. They told me, ‘This is all we can offer,’ and I turned it down.”

Back in Tiger 3—But Out of Spite

Years later, when Tiger 3 was being made, the passing of veteran actor Girish Karnad meant Shorey was the only actor left from the original team besides Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif. YRF once again approached him.

This time, the offer came with a catch: his character was being brought back only to be killed off.

  1. Shorey admitted he agreed to do it “out of anger.”
  2. He bluntly told the makers: “Theek hai, main apne character ko maut dene aajaunga. If this is what you have reduced my character to, then let him die.”
  3. Though the fee was “decent,” Shorey said the sole motivation was to give his character closure, comparing his death scene to the emotional ending of the first film.

Industry Buzz and Reactions

Shorey’s honesty has lit up industry discussions:

  1. Bold move or risky career call? Some applaud him for standing up to a powerful banner like YRF, refusing to compromise on self-respect.
  2. The money question: His pay cut highlights a recurring debate in Bollywood—why talented supporting actors often get sidelined despite audience appreciation.
  3. The franchise angle: Tiger 3 went on to feature Salman Khan, Katrina Kaif, and Emraan Hashmi, tying into the YRF Spy Universe alongside Hrithik Roshan’s War and the upcoming Alpha starring Alia Bhatt and Sharvari Wagh.

Final Thought

Ranvir Shorey’s revelation is more than just behind-the-scenes gossip—it exposes the unequal power equations in Bollywood, where even respected actors struggle for fair pay and meaningful roles. His decision to return “in anger” for Tiger 3 wasn’t about stardom or money, but about taking control of his own narrative, even if it meant ending it.

Whether his candour sparks change or simply fades as a spicy anecdote, one thing is certain: Ranvir Shorey refuses to play by the rules of silent compromise in Bollywood.
