Rapper Emiway Bantai Receives Death Threats Following Sidhu Moosewala Tribute Song

Mumbai-based rapper Emiway Bantai has reportedly received a death threat accompanied by an extortion demand of ₹1 crore from an individual claiming to be Goldy Brar, a known associate of jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi. The threat was issued just hours before Emiway released a tribute song dedicated to the late Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala. 

Background: Tribute to Sidhu Moosewala

Emiway Bantai, a prominent figure in the Indian hip-hop scene, recently unveiled a song paying homage to Sidhu Moosewala, who was tragically shot dead in Punjab’s Mansa district in May 2022. The tribute, which also references Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan, quickly gained traction online, amassing over 500,000 views within hours of its release.

Details of the Threat

According to reports, the threat was delivered via a phone call from an individual identifying himself as Goldy Brar. Brar is allegedly a key member of the Bishnoi gang and is wanted in connection with multiple criminal activities, including the murder of Sidhu Moosewala. The caller demanded ₹1 crore from Emiway, warning of dire consequences if the amount was not paid. 

Lawrence Bishnoi Gang’s History of Targeting Celebrities

The Lawrence Bishnoi gang has a notorious history of issuing threats and extortion demands to high-profile individuals. Bollywood actor Salman Khan has been a recurrent target, receiving multiple threats over the years, including a recent demand for ₹5 crore to “end enmity” with the gang. Similarly, Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut received a threat message referencing Sidhu Moosewala’s fate, indicating the gang’s continued intimidation tactics.

The incident involving Emiway Bantai underscores the increasing vulnerability of artists in the Indian music industry to criminal elements. Following Sidhu Moosewala’s murder, several Punjabi singers, including Mankirat Aulakh, reported receiving death threats, prompting calls for enhanced security measures.
