New Delhi, Jan 7 (PTI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday said the commissioning of the indigenously built pollution control vessel Samudra Pratap strengthens India’s vision of self-reliance while reinforcing maritime security and sustainability.
“The commissioning of Indian Coast Guard Ship (ICGS) Samudra Pratap is noteworthy for numerous reasons, including the fact that it adds strength to our vision of self-reliance, boosts our security apparatus and reflects a commitment to sustainability, among others,” Modi said in a post on X.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh commissioned the ship on Monday. Samudra Pratap is India’s first indigenously built pollution control vessel and the largest ship in the Indian Coast Guard’s fleet to date.
The vessel will play a key role in enforcing marine pollution control regulations, maritime law enforcement, search and rescue operations, and protection of India’s Exclusive Economic Zone.
Its primary function is pollution response at sea, supported by advanced equipment such as side-sweeping arms, floating booms, high-capacity skimmers, portable barges and an onboard pollution control laboratory.
The ship is also equipped with an external fire-fighting system and advanced technologies, including dynamic positioning, integrated bridge and platform management systems, and an automated power management system to enhance operational efficiency. PTI SKU DV DV
