Playback singer Shreya Ghoshal has reportedly recorded a specially composed song for the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting’s Republic Day Parade tableau, with filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali said to have conceptualised the theme.
The tableau will roll down Kartavya Path during the Republic Day Parade on January 26, 2026, and reports describe it as a first-of-its-kind cinema-and-storytelling showcase led by a mainstream film director.
‘Bharat Gatha’: what’s officially confirmed
PIB note: storytelling from “Aum to Algorithm”
The Press Information Bureau (PIB) has officially detailed the I&B Ministry tableau as “Bharat Gatha: Shruti, Kriti, Drishti”—a timeline of India’s storytelling traditions, moving from oral legacy (Shruti) to written expression (Kriti) to modern media (Drishti).
Where cinema fits in
Under Drishti, PIB says the tableau captures India’s media evolution through print, cinema, television and digital platforms, featuring elements like vintage cameras, film reels, satellites and newspapers, while also highlighting future-ready storytelling such as AI and AVGC-XR.
Shreya’s role: a new song tailored for the tableau
What the reports say
Multiple reports state that Bhansali invited Shreya to record a new composition created specifically for the tableau’s narrative arc. The track is expected to play as the tableau proceeds, though the song title and release plan have not been officially announced.
Official credits still awaited
While PIB has published the tableau’s theme and design narrative, it does not name the creative collaborators in the release—so the Bhansali–Shreya association remains report-based at this stage.
Why Bhansali–Shreya pairing carries weight
A partnership rooted in music-led storytelling
Shreya has previously spoken about how her breakthrough moment came when Bhansali retained her rendition during the Devdas recording process—an anecdote often cited as a defining early milestone in her Hindi film journey.
That context makes her reported involvement here feel consistent with the tableau’s intent: using sound and emotion to amplify a national-stage narrative.
Why this tableau matters
Cinema and creative economy on the Republic Day stage
PIB frames the tableau as both cultural chronicle and forward-looking statement—linking storytelling heritage to India’s growing creative economy and the Ministry’s push to position India as a global content hub.
If the reported Bhansali–Shreya collaboration plays out as expected on Kartavya Path, it would also underline a broader shift: entertainment craft moving from industry showcase to formal national narrative.
What to watch for next
- Any official confirmation from I&B Ministry channels naming collaborators
- The song reveal (title/clip) closer to Republic Day
- First visuals of the tableau’s Drishti segment, where cinema symbolism is expected to be most prominent
