Aditya Dhar’s high-octane spy thriller Dhurandhar: The Revenge (also known as Dhurandhar 2), starring Ranveer Singh, has crossed the $100 million mark worldwide within its first week of release. The film hit cinemas on March 19, 2026, and posted a record-setting opening weekend, with Jio Studios reporting a worldwide gross of ₹761 crore. Trade figures cited on March 25 placed its global total at around ₹919 crore, underlining its massive commercial momentum in both domestic and overseas markets.
Harsh international response
Despite its box office dominance, the film has drawn a sharply critical response from sections of the international press. At the time of checking, Dhurandhar: The Revenge held a 38% score on Rotten Tomatoes from 13 critic reviews. Review excerpts on the aggregator describe the film as “unfazed propaganda,” while other coverage highlighted criticism of its graphic violence and what one review called “toxic and barbaric nationalism.”
Divided opinion in India
In India, reactions remain polarised. While the film has enjoyed an overwhelmingly strong theatrical run and enthusiastic audience support, some public figures have strongly objected to its tone and politics. Actress-politician Ramya called it propaganda and criticised its violence and execution, while YouTuber Dhruv Rathee said Aditya Dhar had gone “blatant this time” in pushing what he sees as propaganda.
Commercial triumph vs critical backlash
The contrast between Dhurandhar: The Revenge’s huge box office run and its mixed-to-negative critical reception highlights a familiar split between audience embrace and critical assessment. As the film continues its strong theatrical run, debate around its nationalist tone, violence and political messaging is only getting louder.
