VHP slams Nagaland Baptist Church Council for creating ‘enmity’ between different sections

New Delhi, Mar 18 (PTI) The Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) on Wednesday slammed the Nagaland Baptist Church Council, accusing it of trying to create enmity between different sections of society by dubbing it and the RSS as organisations that “promote and ignite violence”.

VHP president Alok Kumar asserted that both the RSS and the VHP are patriotic and law-abiding organisations which work for uniting the Hindu society towards positive missions of social service, more particularly to the Scheduled Castes (SCs), the Scheduled Tribes (STs) and other needy segments of the society.

“We have seen a statement issued by the Nagaland Baptist Church Council (NBCC) condemning an alleged Assam Rifles raid on Samziuram Baptist Church in Nagaland. Completely out of context, the statement accuses the RSS and VHP as organisations ‘that promote and ignite violence and justify such actions’,” Kumar said in a statement.

Interestingly, the statement does not assign any role of the RSS or the VHP in the alleged incident or that any of them justified the incident, he added.

The VHP chief alleged that the NBCC statement appears to be a “mischievous and dishonest” attempt to escalate a routine security operation into a religious and ideological controversy.

The references to RSS and VHP are unrelated to the said event and likely inserted to frame the narrative “politically or communally”, he charged.

“The VHP condemns the averments of NBCC against RSS and VHP that have been included in a likely attempt to create enmity between different sections of the Bharatiya society,” Kumar said.

“We are informed that the local pastor and village authority have officially certified that no harassment or damage has been caused by the ‘Assam Rifle’ during the operation,” he added.

In a recent statement, the NBCC reportedly alleged a late-night raid by Assam Rifles at Samziuram Baptist Church and the pastor’s residence in Peren District of Nagaland on March 9, expressing concern over the incident.

Condemning the raid as “unthinkable and unacceptable”, it reportedly said in a statement, “The Churches and Associations under the NBCC do not function like the RSS and VHP that promote and ignite violence and justify such actions.” PTI PK PK KSS KSS
