Filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri has broken his silence on mounting speculation about his next big project, amid industry rumours linking him to a high-profile patriotic film centred on Operation Sindoor. In a brief conversation with India Today, the National Award-winning director acknowledged that he is working on a “big nationalistic project,” but declined to confirm any specific details or titles at this stage.
Agnihotri, known for his controversial and often politically charged cinema, stopped short of either confirming or denying reports about directing a film based on India’s military operation targeted at terror infrastructure following the Pahalgam attack in 2025. “I am not disclosing any name. I am saying I am working on a big nationalistic project, and I will announce it at my own time. It’s very big, very interesting,” he said.
Industry Buzz and Reported Collaboration
Although Agnihotri himself has stayed tight-lipped, multiple reports suggest that he has joined hands with Bhushan Kumar’s T-Series for a film titled Operation Sindoor, to be produced under T-Series and I Am Buddha Production, with Agnihotri set to direct. Details on the cast, screenplay and release timeline are yet to be announced.
Operation Sindoor refers to India’s targeted military strikes launched on May 7, 2025, following the April 22, 2025 Pahalgam terror attack in which 26 people were killed.
Context Within Bollywood’s Nationalistic Wave
If realised, the project would mark another addition to a recent trend in Hindi cinema of films inspired by real-world security and geopolitical developments. Agnihotri himself has been at the centre of this wave, directing films such as The Kashmir Files and The Tashkent Files, which garnered significant debate and audience attention. His latest theatrical offering, The Bengal Files, concluded his “Files” trilogy in September 2025.
For T-Series, the potential collaboration comes at a time when the banner is enjoying the success of Border 2, strengthening its foothold in the patriotic film genre.
Awaiting Official Announcement
Despite the flurry of industry speculation, official confirmation on the project’s title, theme and production timeline remains pending. Both Agnihotri and T-Series have so far refrained from making formal statements, leaving fans and trade analysts eager for a forthcoming announcement. As the buzz builds, the film—if it materialises—has the potential to be one of Bollywood’s most talked-about ventures of 2026.
