“When in Doubt, Ask an AI”: Anirudh Ravichander Turns to ChatGPT to Break Creative Block on Rajinikanth’s ‘Coolie’ Soundtrack

In a candid revelation, acclaimed composer Anirudh Ravichander admitted turning to ChatGPT: OpenAI’s conversational AI, when he found himself stuck while composing music for Rajinikanth’s much-anticipated film Coolie. The admission, made during a recent interview with Sun Pictures, underscores a growing trend of technology blending into artistic workflows.

“Two days ago, when I had a creative block, I just opened ChatGPT and fed it information about my song,” Anirudh confessed. “I asked AI, ‘I am stuck while trying to compose the last two lines; what do I do, man?’ I swear, I am being honest.” The AI responded with ten lines, one of which sparked inspiration and helped him “crack the rest of the song.”

Premium Access for Uninterrupted Creativity

Anirudh went a step further, revealing that he had subscribed to ChatGPT’s premium version to ensure seamless assistance. “With the prompt, the AI gave me ten lines. From there, I saw one line, an idea emerged, and I cracked the rest of the song,” he explained. His forthright stance about leveraging AI technology earned praise from fans and industry peers alike.

More Than Tech: Musical Craftsmanship Behind Coolie

Delving into the creative process, Anirudh shed light on the composition of the track “Chikitu Vibe.” He began with a tuned rendition of veteran composer T. Rajendhar’s beats. Upon learning that Soubin Shahir would be dancing alongside Pooja Hegde in the film’s “Monica” number, he decided to infuse a comedic musical interlude inspired by “Lakalakalaka” from Chandramukhi’s “Raa Raa.”

The Coolie soundtrack comprises eight tracks ranging from “Coolie Disco” and “Uyirnaadi Nanbane” to “I am the Danger,” “Monica,” “Kokki,” “Powerhouse,” and “Mobsta.”

Building Buzz Ahead of the Release

With the Coolie audio launch already done and dusted, the cinematic stage is set for its full unveiling. The soundtrack’s singles, especially “Chikitu,” “Monica,” and “Powerhouse”, have gone viral, amplified by Pooja Hegde’s viral hook-step in “Monica.”

Director Lokesh Kanagaraj’s forthcoming action thriller brings together an ensemble cast, Nagarjuna, Shruti Haasan, Upendra, Sathyaraj and a guest appearance by Aamir Khan, alongside Rajinikanth. Set to release on August 14, Coolie is positioned as a pan-Indian spectacle, and the promotional campaign is aiming for a record-breaking opening.

Notably, advance bookings have crossed ₹51 crore globally, despite an ‘A’ certification limiting viewership to adults. The bar is high, pre-sales and demand signal strong opening expectations.
