‘Zombie Reddy 2’ to Be Made for Global Audiences, Says Teja Sajja

Teja Sajja in "Zombie Reddy"

Telugu actor Teja Sajja has officially confirmed that a sequel to Zombie Reddy is in the works, with ambitious plans to elevate the film’s scope and appeal for audiences not just across India but globally. In an exclusive interview with IndiaToday.in, Sajja revealed that Zombie Reddy 2 will aim to meet “international standards,” delivering more scale, visual spectacle, and entertainment than the first film.

From Experiment to Pan-India & Beyond

Having made its debut in 2021, Zombie Reddy blended the zombie apocalypse genre with the familiar regional backdrop of Rayalaseema and faction drama, yielding a quirky mix of horror, comedy, and social commentary. It was marketed as Telugu cinema’s first zombie film.

Despite winning praise from critics and performing decently at the box office, Sajja admits the original did “not reach its potential.” He attributed this to scale limitations and being relative newcomers. Now with more experience, resources, and a wider fan base, the team behind the sequel wants to raise the bar.

Creative Vision & Strategy

What Sajja Says

  1. “Part two is going to be on another level, at an international standard.”
  2. “We are not missing out on fun. This time, we want to deliver a zombie film to international audiences.”
  3. Reflecting on part one: “We needed a bigger platform to showcase it. We were all newcomers then, so we made it that way, no regrets.”

Production & Direction

  1. The sequel, Zombie Reddy 2, has been officially announced.
  2. Director Prashanth Varma, who directed the first film, will return to helm the sequel.
  3. It is being produced under the banner of People Media Factory (PMF).

Scale and Release Timelines

  1. The makers promise a bigger scale and more engaging content than the first film.
  2. A tentative release during the Sankranthi festival season in 2027 has been suggested.
  3. Full cast details and production start dates are yet to be revealed.

Putting It in Context

  1. Zombie Reddy (2021) was made with relatively modest resources, with its novelty and genre mash-up being its major strengths.
  2. Over the years, Telugu cinema’s technical standards—VFX, scale, and production values—have been improving, enabling filmmakers to attempt bigger, more global-looking projects. Sajja’s recent films, such as Hanu-Man and Mirai are also part of his growing trajectory.
  3. Mirai, directed by Karthik Gattamneni and starring Teja Sajja, Ritika Nayak, Manoj Manchu, Shriya Saran, Jayaram, and others, is set to release on September 12, 2025, and is being positioned as a large-scale pan-India venture.

Challenges & Expectations

  1. With the sequel aiming higher, expectations are that it will need enhanced technical work, better VFX, sound design, possibly larger sets, and a tighter script to meet “international standards.”
  2. Balancing the fun, local flavour, and appeal for an international audience will be critical: leaning too much in either direction risks losing either edge.
  3. Also, timing: releasing a genre film like Zombie Reddy 2 at a good slot (festival or otherwise) and securing the right distribution (both domestic & overseas) will matter.

Looking Ahead

If Zombie Reddy 2 manages to deliver on these fronts, it could mark a notable moment for Telugu genre cinema, showing that films rooted in local narratives (Rayalaseema, faction backdrop, etc.) can cross borders if crafted with ambition. Teja Sajja’s assertion that “Usually, we watch international films, but now we are going to deliver one” indicates a mindset shift: from consuming global content to making content that can compete globally.

For fans of the original and those interested in the evolution of regional Indian cinema, the next year or two will be crucial. As Sajja focuses now on Mirai, all eyes will also be on how Zombie Reddy 2 shapes up in scale, style, and success.
